Questions people ask
How much does Apple take from an app sale?
Outside the EU, Apple takes 30% as standard and 15% in the Small Business Program, which is open to developers with no more than USD 1M in proceeds the previous calendar year, Associated Developer Accounts counted together. Auto-renewable subscriptions are 30% in a subscriber's first year of paid service and 15% after, or 15% from the start in the Small Business Program.
What does Apple charge in the EU?
From 1 October 2026, apps on the EU App Store that use Apple In-App Purchase pay 26% as standard, and 15% in the Small Business Program and on subscriptions after their first year. Alternative payment processing and link-out have rates of their own, which the calculator does not include.
What are the new Google Play fees?
They apply in the US, UK and EEA from 30 June 2026 and in Australia and Japan from 30 September 2026. Subscriptions are 10%. Other sales are 10% on the first USD 1M of annual earnings; above that, 15% on new installs and 20% on existing ones in Apps Experience or Games Level Up, and 20% and 25% otherwise. Each rate adds a 5% billing fee when Google Play Billing takes the payment.
What counts as a new install on Google Play?
A user whose first install or first update from Google Play came on or after the region's rollout date. South Korea follows on 31 December 2026 and the rest of the world on 30 September 2027.
What does Google Play charge in other countries?
Until the new fees reach a country, subscriptions are 15%, and other sales are 15% on the first USD 1M a year for developers in the 15% tier and 30% above it.
When does an App Store subscription move to the lower rate?
After the subscriber's first year of paid service. Free trials and renewal extensions do not count as paid days, days are counted per subscription group, and a subscriber who lapses and comes back within 60 days picks up the count where it stopped.
Is the store fee charged on the price with VAT?
No. Where the price includes VAT, as in the EU and the UK, the store takes its fee from the price net of VAT: price divided by 1 plus the VAT rate, times the fee. In the US sales tax is added on top of the price, so enter 0.
