Questions people ask
What size should an iOS app icon be?
One 1024 x 1024 PNG. Current Xcode takes that single image and makes every smaller size itself, so the ZIP holds the 1024 inside an AppIcon.appiconset with a Contents.json for that one size. The icon must not be transparent, so any transparency is filled with the background colour you choose.
Why does the iOS icon have no transparency?
Apple asks for the 1024 x 1024 PNG with no alpha. The resizer fills any transparent area with the background colour and saves the iOS file without an alpha channel at all.
What are the Google Play icon requirements?
A 512 x 512 32-bit PNG under 1024 KB, as a full square. Google Play applies its own mask to the square, so the resizer fills any transparency with the background colour.
What is the safe zone of an Android adaptive icon?
The foreground layer is 108 x 108 dp and launchers mask it to different shapes, so the art has to sit inside the central 66 dp. The resizer places your image there, at 108 to 432 px from mdpi to xxxhdpi, and writes the background colour to values/ic_launcher_background.xml.
Which legacy Android launcher sizes are included?
ic_launcher.png and ic_launcher_round.png at 48, 72, 96, 144 and 192 px, for mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi and xxxhdpi. The round one is the square icon clipped to a circle.
What is a maskable icon?
A PWA icon that the system can crop to a circle or another shape. The art has to stay inside the central 80%, so the resizer scales it into that area and fills the rest with the background colour.
Which favicon and apple-touch sizes do I get?
Favicon PNGs at 16, 32 and 48 px, an apple-touch-icon.png at 180 px with no transparency, and PWA icons at 192 and 512 px.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is read and resized on a canvas in your browser and the ZIP is built there too. Nothing is sent to a server, and the tool is free with no account.
